Shriver House Museum Merges with the
Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg

 The Shriver House Museum was the first museum in Gettysburg dedicated to telling the story of the civilians caught in the crossfire during the Battle of Gettysburg. After telling the Shrivers’ story for twenty-eight years, the Shriver House Museum is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Shriver House by the Adams County Historical Society.

The Adams County Historical Society recently opened a new museum, Beyond the Battle, which also focuses on the civilians stories. “We are excited to have the Historical Society continue our vision and passion for sharing the too often overlooked story of the civilians. Our missions are closely aligned and it’s a perfect match,” said Del Gudmestad, President of the Shriver House Museum.

The Historical Society pledges to continue to preserve the award-winning Shriver House in the center of Gettysburg’s Historic District. They plan to maintain the personal interaction with visitors that has been a hallmark of the Shriver House Museum. Enthusiastic, passionate storytellers in period attire guide visitors through all four floors of the Shrivers’ home while sharing the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the extraordinary story of the Shriver family.
